Sunday NFL Recap

The Bills survived five turnovers. The uniforms may take longer to recover from.

Sunday NFL recap | By Kevin Gibson, Sports Fugitive

The Bills had too many turnovers Sunday. Five with the football—and one with the uniforms.

Buffalo’s new grey look drew the attention of our Upon Further Review fashion police. On the field, the Chargers forced five turnovers and still couldn’t beat the Bills, who escaped with a 24–16 win.

Josh Allen threw two interceptions, while James Cook, Dalton Kincaid and Allen each lost a fumble. But Los Angeles couldn’t turn those extra possessions into enough points. Cook took over when Buffalo needed him most, gaining 77 of his 154 rushing yards in the fourth quarter and scoring a touchdown. The Bills are 3–0; the Chargers are 0–3.

The previous time Buffalo won despite committing at least five turnovers was September 21, 1997, when the Bills beat Indianapolis 37–35. The Colts’ quarterback that day was Jim Harbaugh—the Chargers’ head coach on Sunday.

Another Bo Nix comeback

The Rams led Denver 16–0 at halftime Sunday night. Then Bo Nix and the Broncos scored all 30 of their points in the second half. Nix threw two touchdown passes and, after Los Angeles took the lead back, scored on a quarterback keeper with 47 seconds remaining to win it 30–26. Talanoa Hufanga’s 66-yard interception return for a touchdown helped turn the final minutes into a scramble.

If that sounds familiar, ask the Giants. Last season, New York led Denver 19–0 entering the fourth quarter and later held a 26–8 lead. The Broncos scored 33 points in the final period and won 33–32. Denver went on to set an NFL record with 12 regular-season comeback wins in 2025, and Nix had already led another fourth-quarter rally against Jacksonville a week before facing the Rams.

That’s the joke in our other Upon Further Review cartoon: a devastated Rams player sits beside a Giants player, who offers the only consolation he can—“We know how you feel.”

A kick to remember in Rio

Baltimore and Dallas traded blows in Rio de Janeiro before the Ravens escaped 34–31. Tyler Loop’s 56-yard field goal won it as time expired. Dallas moved the ball well enough to keep Baltimore under pressure, but the Ravens made the last play that mattered.

The Raiders are 3–0. Yes, really.

Las Vegas beat New Orleans 35–27 to open a season 3–0 for the first time since 2021. The Raiders have already matched their win total from last year. Four fourth-quarter takeaways helped them put away a Saints team that kept threatening to come back, while Kirk Cousins has thrown at least three touchdown passes in each of the season’s first three games.

Pittsburgh and San Francisco held on

Aaron Rodgers threw for 292 yards and three touchdowns as Pittsburgh edged Cincinnati 30–27. Joe Burrow answered with 282 yards and three touchdowns, but the Steelers made the late plays, including Derrick Harmon’s game-clinching sack.

San Francisco improved to 3–0 with a 36–30 win over Arizona. Brock Purdy threw four touchdown passes, though the 49ers had to hold off a Cardinals rally. The victory also came with injury concerns after Mike Evans and Trent Williams left the game.

Buffalo survived its mistakes. Denver erased a 16-point deficit. And the Giants finally found someone who understood what they went through against Bo Nix.
